ENGLISH

[Figure 1.A.] presents its first curated exhibition presenting the artworks of 5 artists, specializing in the use of scientific methodology and approaches to their artistic process.

“Structures” begins with a brief exploration of natural and artificial structures on a micro-scale through the use of scientific images. By revealing the elements that maintain life we ask how these structures shape our understanding of the world around us and within our bodies. The exhibit culminates in the presentation of the artist collective. We will address how environments shape identity, personal expression, and connection to nature. The artistschallenge the notion of whether form needs to solely follow function and test the boundaries of whether structures are adaptable to novel ideas, or they always must be destroyed and built anew.

[Figure 1.A] is coming back to Valais in 2023! Partnering with Murithienne and La Médiathèque Valais-Martigny to present our new exhibition, "Landscapes: A Scientific Immersion."

The exhibition will take place from February 2nd to April 1st, 2023, at the exhibition space "Dans L'Objectif" of La Médiathèque.

Av. Gare 15 - Martigny

Monday to Saturday 13h00 - 18h00
Thursday 10h00 - 18h00

Get ready to be captivated by the unique images featured in this exhibition! Carefully selected by La Murithienne and [Figure 1.A.], these images from the fields of neuroscience, biology, and physics reveal the infinitely small and the infinitely large.

But that's not all - to make your visit even more special, public meetings have been organized with the scientists who are also authors of some of the exhibited works. These meetings provide a friendly atmosphere for attendees to learn more and enhance the overall aesthetic experience.

The first meeting will feature Charline Carron, a specialist in neuroscience, and will be held on the evening of the vernissage (February 2nd at 18h00).

Upcoming meetings:

  • Tuesday, February 28th: Silvia Brochet, an expert in microbial ecology and former doctoral student at the FBM.

  • Thursday, March 9th: Nathan Külling, a doctoral student in spatial ecology at the University of Geneva.

  • Saturday, March 25th: Estelle Pignon, a doctoral student in microbiology and synthetic biology at the FBM, followed by Patrick Aouad, a specialist in cellular and molecular biology who is currently a researcher at the FBM.
